Wednesday's Words to Live By For May 2nd - May 8th 2012 "God Makes ALL Things New" Part 1

Scriptures: Revelation 21:5; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20; Romans 6:1-7, 10-11;
Isaiah 43:18; Ephesians 4:22-24

And He Who is seated on the throne said, See! I make all things new. Also He said, Record this, for these sayings are faithful (accurate, incorruptible, and trustworthy) and true (genuine).

Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.

I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

1 What should we say? Should we keep on sinning, so that God’s wonderful kindness will show up even better? 2 No, we should not! If we are dead to sin, how can we go on sinning? 3 Don’t you know that all who share in Christ Jesus by being baptized also share in his death? 4 When we were baptized, we died and were buried with Christ. We were baptized, so that we would live a new life, as Christ was raised to life by the glory of God the Father. 5 If we shared in Jesus' death by being baptized, we will be raised to life with him. 6 We know that the persons we used to be were nailed to the cross with Jesus. This was done, so that our sinful bodies would no longer be the slaves of sin. 7 We know that sin doesn’t have power over dead people.

10 When Christ died, he died for sin once and for all. But now he is alive, and he lives only for God. 11 In the same way, you must think of yourselves as dead to the power of sin. But Christ Jesus has given life to you, and you live for God.

The Lord said: Forget what happened long ago! Don’t think about the past.

22 You were told that your foolish desires will destroy you and that you must give up your old way of life with all its bad habits. 23 Let the Spirit change your way of thinking 24 and make you into a new person. You were created to be like God, and so you must please him and be truly holy.

We are dead to sin and it’s affects, therefore, the things that happened to us because of sin (born in sin and shaped in iniquity – Psalms 51:5 – because of the curse brought on by Adam and Eve sinning in the Garden of Eden – Genesis 3) can no longer hold us back. Jesus has freed us from ALL sins; we are no longer slaves to sin or to its consequences (Romans 6:6). Therefore, old things are passed away and God HAS made ALL things new (2 Corinthians 5:17)!

We are no longer the person we were BEFORE we accepted Christ! All those things that happened to us before (abuse, molestation, sexual assault, neglect, abandonment, rejection, etc.) are under the Blood of Jesus! Those things (listed above) and others happened to our old selves (“old man”) and we are no longer that person. You do not have to accept the thoughts the enemy bring you concerning these or anything in your past; pull down the strongholds in your mind using God’s mighty weapons of warfare and “lead every thought and purpose away captive to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4 – Amplified). Don’t allow the enemy to speak to your mind or speak to you through others; believe what the Word of God says that you are a new creation in Christ – old things have passed away, behold all things are new (2 Corinthians 5:17) – you are a new creation (it might seem as if I am repeating myself but I cannot stress this enough).

Submit yourselves to God by believing every word in the Bible, every promise and this will cause you to be able to resist the devil; then he will flee – he MUST flee! However, he will NEVER flee if you keep believing and agreeing with his lies!

You are not the same person you use to be! Sunday, April 29th 2012, after my Pastor prayed for me, God let me knew that I was not the same little girl I was years ago when I was rejected by my father. God let me knew that the rejection did not happen to the new me but to my old self and I am no longer that person; I have been washed in the mighty, powerful Blood of Jesus and restored to my heavenly Father – He will NEVER reject me! God also let me knew I was not the same person because I am a new creation in Him through Christ. The enemy was trying to bring back those old feelings how my father had rejected me but my Pastor prayed and God reminded me who I was in Him and that’s what He is doing to YOU through this teaching.

Don’t accept the old feelings that try to come back to you; the triggers – God has delivered you from your past through Jesus and He loves you very much. Accept His love and don’ allow anyone to bring up your past to you! It is finished; the old man was crucified with Christ – walk in the newness of life!

God bless you all,

Wednesday's Words To Live By For April 11th – April 17th 2012 Prelude to Next Week's Message "Jesus Carried 'It' All In His Body"

Believe!

This is a prelude of the message for the weeks of May 30th to June 5th and June 6th to June 12th. The message is so important that it will not be broken up into several parts but you will have two weeks to study it so you can get the full impact of its message. God wants your eyes to be opened to His truth. He wants you to stop walking around in darkness; being blinded by the enemy’s lies.
Jesus has done everything you need to be done in your life already. All you have to do is embrace it!

Accept it and stop living according to your flesh! Believe what God’s Word is saying and not what your flesh is saying. Jesus said in John 16:33 that He has already overcame the world. Everything we are going through now Jesus has already gotten victory over it for us; Romans 8:37 say we are more than conquerors. We did nothing to win any battle to obtain our freedom; Jesus did it for us. All we have to do is obey God and His Word. It’s that simple!

Isaiah 54:17 says no weapon formed against us shall prosper and sickness, disease, infirmity, etc. are weapons! We can believe God’s Word, follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and live or we can believe the lies that the devil shows us (walk in the flesh – by sight) and die; there is no in-between! We either are living for God or the devil! We are either for God or against Him (Matthew 12:30). There should be no straddling of the fence! Don’t miss heaven and go to hell trying to live half for God and half for the devil! That’s not going to work!

It’s time to make up your mind, NOW, TODAY, as who you are going to serve! What God told Elijah to ask the people in 1 Kings 18:21, He is telling me now to ask you today: “...How long will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him! (www.biblegateway.com – NLT).

Life or death lies in the power of your tongue (Proverbs 18:21; Deuteronomy 30:15) so choose carefully! My suggestion is that you choose God and live but don’t just choose Him with your mouth, choose Him also with your heart (Matthew 22:37)!

God Bless,
Dr. Dorothy E. Hooks

Wednesday's Words to Live By For April 4th - April 10th 2012 "Test the Spirits to See If They Are of God"

Early morning while sitting at my desk, God gave me this message and I want to share it with you. God told me to stop trying to connect with people of the world (trying to be their friends with EVERYBODY I met) because the world loves its own and they know their own. I am also to stop trying to connect with “church folk” who doesn’t have God’s agenda at heart. God said just as the world knows its own, His people should know their own; we are to know (by the Holy Spirit) who really are of God and who are not.

The world also knows who God’s people are. Let me give you my personal example of the world knowing who God’s people are:

Some years ago when I was really just coming to the Lord, I had an experience I will never forget. I was living in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and attending the Votech School there. When I woke up that morning, God told me to fast; He knew what I would encounter at school that evening. The previous day, the instructor had put me out her class for asking a question but I would find out the real reason why later. She told me not to come back to her class anymore. Therefore, when I stepped into her class that evening, she went into a rage and started screaming at me to get out here class. I did not know what was wrong with her (did not know anything about discernment at the time).

Finally, the instructor told me to go outside and talk with her. Oh, I forgot to mention, she brought her daughter with her and she wore jeans that day; she had planned to jump on me:). When we got outside she started screaming so loud that her daughter came out to make sure she was alright (all this time I was cool as a cucumber:) because I was fasting – God knew me and He knew if I would not have been fasting, there is NO WAY I would have been cool – I used to be a hot head and I would have went to jail if I would not have fasted:) - you will see in a minute why). I made a joke when her daughter came out to check on her, I asked her why she brought her daughter – for backup and I was smiling.

When I made that statement, the instructor slapped me so hard that my head hit the brick wall behind me that I was leaning against; she left a mark on my face. Another student was coming in late (she had never been late – God used her as a witness) and saw the instructor hit me and ran from the car to push her back from me. I started to cry, and then everyone ran out the school.

They thought I was crying because she slapped me but I was crying because God had given me the victory; at that moment I knew exactly why God ask me to fast. I later found out the real reason she did not want me back in her class – she was a witch and recognized the Spirit of God in me; even though I did not know who I was in God that spirit in her did. This goes to show that the devil can recognize the God in YOU! All throughout the Gospels, the devil recognized who Jesus was also.

Therefore, if the devil can recognize God’s people, God’s spirit in us should be able to recognize who other people are; whether they are in or out of the church. Don’t be fooled into thinking everybody in church is of God!! They are not! You will see what the Words say about this later!

What I am saying has nothing to do with judging anyone, this has to do with recognizing wolves in sheep’s clothing by allowing the Holy Spirit to show you who is who; using your gift of discernment which God has given you.

What God was telling me was to allow discernment to lead me and not be led by my emotions; just because people act like they are nice or sound like they care, does not mean they are for real – there are many sociopaths out there trying to deceive people; in and out of church.

This is something people do not want to talk about and that is why there are so many hurt people in church. We cannot be so gullible to think there are not cons in the church! The reason God gave me this message is because I had been deceived by someone in the church into thinking they were my friend; this person pursued me until I gave in (all the while the Holy Spirit was saying “No, do not get into a relationship with this person”) and agreed to start hanging out with them. After that, the bombshell fell and I was devastated! It was not overnight that I forgave them but I did and God healed some deep wounds that I received from being disobedient to the Holy Spirit. God is using me to warn you so the same thing will not happen to you and if it has happened, ask for forgiveness from God, the person if need be, and move on; chalking the experience up and learning from it so you can warn others. I had to apologize to that person and I did nothing wrong to them but God told me to apologize. I am like, “God I did nothing to them why do I have to apologize?” I should have known better to go there with God because He always wins:), so I apologized.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:15 to be aware of false prophets who come to us in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravening wolves. 1 John 4:1 says for us not to believe every spirit but we must try the spirit to see whether it is of God or not. This is what these Scriptures say in the Message Bible:

Matthew 7:15:
15-20 “Be wary of false preachers who smile a lot, dripping with practiced sincerity. Chances are they are out to rip you off some way or other. Don't be impressed with charisma; look for character. Who preachers are is the main thing, not what they say. A genuine leader will never exploit your emotions or your pocketbook. These diseased trees with their bad apples are going to be chopped down and burned” (www.biblegateway.com).

1 John 4:1:
“My dear friends, don't believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you. Not everyone who talks about God comes from God. There are a lot of lying preachers loose in the world” (www.biblegateway.com).

If we real born again believers test the spirits by the Holy Spirit more often, people will not be able to fool us easily with their smooth, empty words and calculating actions. God will not have us ignorant of the devil’s devices! That is why He is warning us in the above Scripture! We must stop ignoring God’s warning about a person, thinking we know the person; God is the only One who can see a person’s heart – the pure motive.

I am not saying to be suspicious of everyone you meet but I am saying to be watchful of people who you form close relationships with. If you are being led by the Holy Spirit, you will not be fooled! God does not want us to be entangled with everyone we meet! Show the love of God yes but that does not mean form a relationship; we are not always compatible with everyone we meet – Amos 3:3: “Can two walk together unless they agree?” 2 Cor. 6:14-18: “Do not unequally yoked together with unbelievers...”

I know for me, God does not allow me to form relationships with everyone I meet; He has a few selected people who I can interact with. And every time I try to form relationships that He does not approve of, He lets me know. I am attaching to this teaching a poem entitled, “Life Is A Theater” and it says it all about relationships and a poem entitled, “A Reason, A Season, A Lifetime.”

I know if you draw close to God and He will draw close to you and you will not be able to be deceived!

 God bless you all,
 Dr. Dorothy E. Hooks

Life is a Theater — Invite Your Audience Carefully

Not everyone is spiritually healthy and mature enough to have a front row seat in our live. There are some people in your life that need to be loved from a distance. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you let go, or at least minimize your time with draining, negative, incompatible, not-going-anywhere relationships, friendships, fellowships. Observe the relationships around you. Pay attention to:

Which ones lift and which ones lean?
Which ones encourage and which ones discourage?
Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and which ones are going downhill?
When you leave certain people, do you feel better or feel worse?
Which ones always have drama or don't really understand, know and appreciate you and the gift that lies within you?

When you seek growth, peace of mind, love and truth, the easier it will become for you to decide who gets to sit in the front row and who should be moved to the balcony of your life.

You cannot change the people around you but you can change the people you are around.

Ask God for godly wisdom and discernment and choose wisely the people who sit in the front row of your life.

A Reason, A Season, A Lifetime

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON . . . It is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.

Sometimes they die.

Sometimes they walk away.

Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our
desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you
sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON . . .
Because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount
of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Wednesday's Words to Live by For March 28th - April 3rd 2012 "We Are Already Healed" Part II

Scriptures - Deuteronomy 7:15a & Isaiah 53:5 - I will use different translations this week for the teaching:
New International Version (NIV): The LORD will keep you free from every disease (Deu. 7:15a).

English Standard Version (ESV): And the LORD will take away from you all sickness (Deu. 7:15a).

New Living Translation (NLT): And the Lord will protect you from all sickness (Deu. 7:15a).

New Living Translation (NLT) - Isaiah 53:5: But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

Sickness, disease, or any other plague has no legal right to be on or in our bodies and we must NOT allow it to remain. We are already healed and God’s healing grace keeps our healing in place. Isaiah 53:4 said, “Jesus carried our weakness...,” weakness here means, disease and sickness. Therefore, if Jesus has already carried our diseases and sicknesses in His body, why do we need to carry them in ours? We don’t! The enemy is going around as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour; he is looking for someone, anyone to steal, kill and destroy them by any means necessary – but this will not work! Romans 8:26-27 says: 26 “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.” For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for but the Holy Spirit prays for us with groaning that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will” (www.biblegateway.com - NLT).

God is saying today what He told Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is all you need; My power works best in weakness” (NLT). God told Paul this three times; each time Paul would ask Him to remove his thorn in the flesh.

After God did not remove the thorn, Paul finally got the revelation because he said in verses 9-10, “So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (NLT).

Jesus has healed us because of God’s grace! What is grace? It is much, much more than God’s unmerited favor. According to seekgod.org’s web site, “Grace is an undeserved free gift, undeserved favor, and undeserved love. Only through Jesus Christ we are offered grace, a free gift. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Eph. 2:8).

God has already given us His grace for healing! He loved us so much that He sent His only Son Jesus, to die so we could live! We must accept Jesus to activate our grace! We cannot have grace without Him!

We must grow in the grace that God has given; if we do not know we have grace or do not know what it is, grace will not do us any good. 2 Peter 3:18 tell us to grow in grace: “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen” (KJV).

How do we grow in grow? We grow in grace by transforming our minds to the truth of God’s Word. We must know God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and by knowing the Trinity, we will know what our inheritance is; what our covenant benefits are. Until our minds are transformed to what Jesus HAS done, we cannot receive our healing grace. Once our minds are transformed, we will be able to receive and apply the Word of God, which is health to our flesh, to every circumstance and situation in our lives (Proverbs 4:22).

Your thought life can nullify God’s healing grace in your life. It’s not that God’s healing grace is not present to heal in your life; it’s just you cannot receive because of your thinking. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so he is.”

Let’s embrace the grace of God, not only for healing, but His full grace that He has provided for us through His Son Jesus! Again, we do this by renewing our minds to what His Word says and believe what Jesus has already completed for us. Now also, the Holy Spirit is living inside of us, comforting us, teaching us, so we cannot lose! All we have to do is not allow our bodies or any other situation or circumstance cause us to waver in our faith! God’s grace IS sufficient for us!

God bless,
Dr. Dorothy E. Hooks
