Wednesday's Words To Live By for September 21st – September 27th 2011 “Cast Your Cares Upon The Lord”

This week the “Wednesday’s Words to Live By” Scripture is from 1 Peter 5:6-11:

6 “So put away all pride from yourselves. You are standing under the powerful hand of God. At the right time He will lift you up. 7 Give all your worries to Him because He cares for you. 8 Keep awake! Watch at all times. The devil is working against you. He is walking around like a hungry lion with his mouth open. He is looking for someone to eat. 9 Stand against him and be strong in your faith. Remember, other Christians over all the world are suffering the same as you are. 10 After you have suffered for awhile, God Himself will make you perfect. He will keep you in the right way. He will give you strength. He is the God of all loving-favor and has called you through Christ Jesus to share His shining-greatness forever. 11 God has power over all things forever. Let it be so” (www.biblegateway.com– New Living Translation [NLV]).

God cares for us! No matter what cares we are dealing with day by day, God is more powerful! All we have to do is humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand and He will bring us out at the right time. Psalms 34:19 says many are the afflictions of the righteous but God will deliver us out of them all. God is the one and only Deliver; not people! We are to cast our cares upon God, not people.

Therefore, we are to give our cares to Him so He can bring us out. The difference between pride and humbleness is: Pride says, “I can do this by myself, I don’t need anybody to help me” or “I got this!” However, humbleness says, “Jesus, I lift my eyes to You; I can do nothing apart from You” or “Jesus I cry out to You; I need Your help because I cannot do this!”

We are not supposed to be worried, anxious for nothing; we are not to allow anything to cause us to fret or be in fear. That’s why Jesus told us to take His yoke and burden upon ourselves and learn of Him. Jesus was never stressed or worried about anything. He prayed to His Father with confidence, knowing that God always heard Him. We too must pray with confidence believing God heard us; God hears us and answers when we pray His will.

1 John 5:14-15 says: 14 ”And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him” (www.biblegateway.com – English Standard Version [ESV].

We know God wants us to cast ALL of our cares (anxieties, worries, fears, sickneses, diseases, doubts – anything that will cause us to lose focus of God) upon Him. Therefore, we know He hears us when we do cast these things upon Him and He takes them and allow His peace to rise up within us. The same peace that Jesus gave to us in John 14:27 and told us not to let our hearts be troubled neither let it be afraid. This is the same peace that will guard our hearts and minds in Phil 4:7, if we are not anxious about anything but pray about everything. Jesus’ real peace, His Shalom, cannot come until we cast ALL our cares upon Him!!

This week’s declaration:

“Father, this day I humble myself under Your mighty hand and cast ALL my cares upon You because I know You cares for me and I trust You! I have confidence in You that as I pray Your perfect will, You answers me. I will not be anxious for anything but I will pray about everything. I choose to take on Jesus’ yoke and His burden because His yoke is easy and His burden is light. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen!”

God bless you all,
Dr. Dorothy E. Hooks
